The Salem and Beverly Water Supply Board would like to update Beverly and Salem residents regarding the odor/taste issues some residents have been experiencing.

After the initial reports of odor/taste issues, the Water Board adjusted the treatment of the water supply to address these issues, which were likely caused by higher temperatures and higher water demands. The newly treated water has been slowly making its way through the distribution systems, and recent samples from both cities have continued to meet all regulatory requirements. This week’s samples also indicate color or odor are within normal ranges. The odor/taste issue appears to be strictly aesthetic, and the water is otherwise safe to use.

If you are still experiencing issues, please try flushing your cold water for a few minutes periodically from the lowest point in the building (or an outdoor spigot). Depending on the distance from the treatment plant in North Beverly, it may take several more days before the newly treated water reaches everyone.

We appreciate the patience of Beverly and Salem residents as the water continues to make its way through the distribution systems and into homes and businesses. Thank you.
